Accu Chek™ Glucose

The Accu Chek Compact™ Blood Glucose Meter is a state-of-the-art model for regularly checking and monitoring a diabetic’s daily glucose level. This is, of course, the case for all the 25 various meters, but the Accu Chek Compact™ has a unique update on the most current technology available for ultimate ease, convenience, safety and accuracy.

This device has a multitude of capabilities. First, it requires a 17-test drum cartridge for the sake of greater convenience. This enables quick and accurate results once a “test strip” is inserterd with a blood sample. Without the 17-test drum cartridge, such results are likely to be off; and even more, such results could not be deemed reliable. This is why this component is essential for the advanced performance of the device. Then there is also an automated coding system whereby the 17-test drum is loaded into the device. This allows for effortless installation and interpretation of readings of glucose measurements.

Other features include: a 100-value memory with incorporated time and dates, as well as an averaging function for those who are curious or need to know typical ratings for glucose levels summoned for comparison. This might especially be prudent for the first-time user. Resulted measurements can be recorded and saved in this memory for later retrieval or transfer to personal computer systems through the implementation of Accu-Chek Compass™ Software, a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and/or the Accu-Chek Pocket Compass™ Software that virtually sends any and all information from the device to another harddrive for printing or storage as deemed necessary by the owner.

The Accu-Chek Compact™ Blood Glucose Meter primarily performs what is called “Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose” (SMBG), but the significance with this type of device is that such management can be conducted at anytime or anywhere. With the Accu-Chek Compact Blood Glucose Meter the SMBG process becomes as unconscious and natural as breathing.

Instructions of use involve the following:

  1. Always have clean hands or where sterile rubber gloves. One should wash hands with soap and warm water before every using to ensure a germ-free environment, otherwise an infection may occur. Alcohol and other non-medicinal types of cleansers should never be used under any circumstances.
  1. Prick fingertips or other selected area with the enclosed lancet to draw blood. This might cause some appregension at first for those who have weak stomachs, but thast should pass within a few weeks as the SMBG process sets in and becomes routine.
  1. Suspend finger over a “test strip” to catch a drop of thte blood. Chemicals on the strip, such as glucose oxidase, dehydrogenase or hexokinase, will condition the blood for the measurement of glucose present.
  1. Insert strip into the meter where the measurement of glucose will be conducted in as quickly as 15 seconds, at which point that data received is recorded in the device’s memory for later retrieval.

With the Accu-Chek Compact™ Blood Glucose Meter, accuracy is the most important factor with users, and it is pretty much guaranteed. For this reason, this particular device is one of the most commonly used around.
